Users can acquire the latest version of the TOS software through two ways: manual update, or online update.

Manual download: There is a Download Center in the official website of TerraMaster, where users can download TOS software packages. After finishing download TOS software, users need to log in TOS as administrator, then click Control Panel > General Setting > Update & Recovery > Software Update, then click Browse to select the update package downloaded, and click Manual Update to finish software update.

Online update: As TNAS system has the online update function, when a new version software is released, users will be promted and users can complete it following the guide as long as they select Online Update. Users just need to select online update and then download and install the new software as instructed. Or, users can log in TOS as administrator, then click Control Panel > General Settings >Update & Recovery＞ Software Update and click Online Update to finish software update.

The reason may be the lack of compatibility between the USB drive program on Windows 10 and the computer's USB hardware, causing data copying to be slow or become disrupted. The USB hardware drive program should be updated.

It's wrong to install TOS system separately for each hard drive. If you want to add a new hard drive, please insert it into the device when the device is powered on, and then go to TOS control panel > Storage Manager >RAID, and click Create, it could be used after RAID is created. TOS system will be installed to the new hard drive automatically. It will lead to RAID rename when installing TOS system separately for each hard drive, and only one hard drive's data could be shown with all hard drives inserted . In this case, please do the following steps:
1. Backup data: power off the device, insert any one of the hard drive and power the device on to backup the data
2. Delete the RAID: go to TOS Control Panel>Storage Manager > RAID, select RAID Volume #1 and click Delete
3. Create RAID: power the device off, and insert all the hard drives, then power it on, and go to TOS Control Panel>Storage Manager > RAID, and click Create. It will work properly after the RAID is created.

Only some of the high-end rack-mount models can upgrade the CPU. Please check the specifications on the official website before you buy. 

It’s mainly the reason that Windows Defender Firewall has blocked the TNAS PC program. Please click “Allow access” when the following window prompts you that Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features of TNAS PC. Otherwise TNAS PC could not find any device.

In case that “Cancel” was mistakenly clicked, please go to Windows Control Panel > Windows Defender Firewall > advanced settings > Inbound Rules, find TNAS PC, delete the rule for it and restart it. It will ask you to choose again, and click “Allow access” this time.

Please check the following:
1.How’s the transfer speed of hard drives? SATA I (1.5Gbps), SATA II (3Gbps), SATA III (6Gbps)?
2.What is the partition format of the hard drives installed on the TerraMaster device? NTFS is fastest; FAT32 the 2nd, while exFAT is the slowest.
3.What is the partition format of the hard drives in the computer? NTFS is fastest; FAT32 the 2nd, while exFAT is the slowest.
4.What is the interface type of the USB port which connects the TerraMaster device and the computer? Is it USB2.0, USB3.0 or USB3.1?
5.The transfer speed also has something to do with the RAID mode. RAID 0 or RAID 10 is fast, while RAID 1, RAID 5, SINGLE Disk and CLONE are slower.

Yes. You can install the Cloud Sync application in TOS to synchronize your Cloud Drive. Currently supported Cloud drive has Baidu Cloud, Dropbox, more Cloud Drives are in the update, please pay attention to the official update information.

1. The RAID Manager should be downloaded and installed on the computer from the TerraMaster official website;

Yes. But your game needs to support storage to networked storage devices.

TNAS supports Plex media servers. First you need to install the Plex media server in the TOS application center and enable it. Then, you need to install the Plex client on Samsung TV or LG TV, and then use the Plex client to watch the video in TNAS.

There is a Download Center on TerraMaster official website, where users can free download information such as Quick Start Guide, Manuals and so on. Users just need to select product model in Download Centre that indicates all available software and information of the model for download. As TNAS application has the online update function, when a new version software is released, users will be promted and users can complete it following the guide as long as they follow the guide.

TNAS has two series of models, one is installed with hard drive and the other is not, therefore note that users need pay attention to select when purchasing. TNAS installed with hard drive can be used after initialization and if the TNAS is not installed hard drive, the users are required to buy hard drive and install it by themselves, and then initialize TNAS. Yes. TNAS is a DLNA-compatible device, as long as your playback device is compatible with DLNA. 

The router may have not enabled the DHCP service. Please follow the TNAS PC application guide to manually change the IP address of TNAS to be within the same network segment as those of other devices.

If the TNAS device cannot be found through search in TNAS desktop application, the device will not start initialization and is still unavailable. The following are common reasons why TNAS desktop application cannot search for TNAS and the relevant countermeasures:

Reason 1: TNAS desktop application version is outdated.

Solution: Update TNAS application to the latest version. Please visit the Download Center on the official website of TerraMaster to download the latest TNAS desktop application based on the product models of TerraMaster. And search again after installing TNAS desktop application.

Reason 2: TNAS is not well connected with the network:

Solution: Please check if the connectin with TNAS and the indicator of the router or Switch port is normal; if not, it indicates that TNAS device is not connected to network. Please change a network port or try again after replacing a network cable.

Reason 3: Hard drive inside TNAS device may be damaged or the hard drive fails to communicate with TNAS normally.

Solution: The indicator light should be pink or blue when the hard drive works normally. Please check the hard drive indicator of TNAS and if it is red, it means that the hard drive fails to start. Please pull out the hard drive that shows red light, reinsert into the slot, and then restart TNAS. After restarting, please replace a new hard drive and try again if TNAS still cannot be searched by TNAS application;

Reason 4: TNAS and the computer are not on the same network;

Solution: if TNAS and the computer are not on the same network, TNAS desktop application will be unable to search for TNAS device. Please connect TNAS and computer within the same network.

Reason 5: The computer opens firewall;

Solution: Please remove TNAS from the firewall stop list.

Reason 6: 2 or more network cards are used on the computer;

Solution: Several network cards on one computer will lead to conflict and make TNAS fail to communicate with the computer. In this case, please turn off other network cards and keep the network card being used.

Yes, but you need to buy a model with 4 or more bays.

The answer is no, because the D5-300 storage device is exclusively meant for RAID 5, meaning that it is possible to creat just one set. RAID failure may occur if multiple RAID sets are created, leading to loss of hard drive data. Current arrays must be deleted before creating new ones, if hard drives need to be added or removed from the current RAID. Data should be backed-up prior to array deletion as this may cause hard drive data to be lost.

No! Newly purchased TNAS cannot be used prior to the completion of initialization, which include the followings:

1. Install the hard drive (in case that the hard drive is not installed in your purchased TNAS).
2. Download and install TNAS desktop application.
3.Update TOS software.
4. Creat RAID and format it

TNAS is ready to be used after above steps are completed.

No. TNAS does not support virtual machines for the time being.

The source of the problem is the selection of the MBR partition for initialising the hard drive, as this can support a capacity no greater than 2TB. The GPT partition should be selected for hard drives larger than 2TB.

Yes. If you purchase a TNAS with 2 or more network interfaces, you can set up link aggration.

Newly purchased TNAS products cannot be used until completion of initialization. Please visit the official website of TerraMaster, and then click Installation Guide and finish the initialization of the product in accordance with guidelines on the page.

Please kindly note:
1. TNAS can install 2.5 inch SATA hard drive, 3.5 inch desktop SATA hard drive or 2.5 inch SSD. Please refer to Hard drive Compatibility on the official website of TerraMaster for suitable installation of hard drive brands and models.

2. If there are not any TNAS devices showing up in the TNAS desktop application menu, please refer to FAQ for troubleshooting.

3. Input Administrator user name and password on the TOS login page, and the administrator user name is admin and the initial password is admin as well. Administrator name can not be changed but the initial password can be changed. Please be sure to remember the new password.

4.For uninitialized TNAS, the system will automatically enter the initialization guide page when you first login TOS. Please finish the initialization in accordance with the guidelines on the page.

5.Initialization will remove data on the hard drive, so please back up important data.

6. System initialization will take ten minutes, please wait; after initialization, the page will refresh automatically to TOS login page. If the page does not refresh automatically, please close the page and use TNAS desktop application to search for TNAS again, and then click TOS Login in TNAS application menu.

7. After TNAS is initialized, the hard drive will format itself automatically and create RAID.

If users find that the transmission speed (reading/writing) of TNAS is far lower than the official test values, it indicates that the TNAS device or network connection has abnormal situation. Please exclude exception one by one according to the instructions below:
1.The computer uses wireless network. The transmission speed will be greatly reduced if computer users use wireless network for data transmission. To ensure a sufficient transmission speed, we recommed using a wired network.
2.Hard drive failure. Data transmission speed will be affected when the hard drive within TNAS fails.
3.Network failure. Please check if the network connection to the network cable, router or Switch port is normal.
4.Computer failure. If the computer invaded by viruses or the computer network card fails, data transmission speed will be affected.

The D5-300C has the RAID controller to control the RAID for HDD’s in tray 1 and 2. If these two HDD’s were created RAID by 3rd party software, the RAID controller would be incompatible with the one D5-300C already has. And as there is no RAID controller for the HDD’s in tray 3, 4 and 5, these three HDD’s are supported to use 3rd party software to create RAID.

Yes. But this is the wrong choice! NAS takes 7 x 24 hours to work. To keep your data safe, be sure to use a hard drive designed specifically for NAS.

TNAS is a networked storage device that cannot output content directly to a computer or TV. If you need to view content in TNAS, your computer or TV needs to be connected to TNAS over the network.

Administrator (admin) does not have privileges to allow or deny users remote access to TNAS. All users including Admin could remotely access TNAS via TNAS online when TNAS online is enabled. Admin could only set the permissions (as read only, read and write , deny) for users to access different shared file folders.

TNAS PC desktop application is an application sofware specially designed for TNAS, and it has two versions of Windows computer and Mac computer. TNAS PC application has various functions such as smart search, smart IP address matching, TOS login interface, file management, remote access interface and help, which is a right-hand man for TNAS users.

SINGLE Disk: Each hard drive is separate and they display separately in the computer without any correlation between each other.
JBOD: All hard drives are combined into a linear disk (just a bunch of disks), and one disk space is displayed in the computer.

Since the TNAS motherboard is hidden inside the chassis, when you want to add a memory stick, you need to unscrew the chassis with a screwdriver to open it, install the memory stick into the slot and close the chassis. When installing the memory stick, make sure that the memory stick is installed in place, otherwise the system will not boot.

Enterprise hard drive: enterprise hard drive is frequently produced with more advanced technology and excellent components to provide better performance, POH, MTBF, vibration protection and error correction capability. Enterprise hard drives apply to large amounts of data reading and transmission. It indicates that enterprise hard drive is more applicable to enterprise with large number of employees to access files, data servers or virtual storage systems at the same time. Enterprise hard drive is suitable for use in TNAS but it costs higer.

NAS hard drive: it is specially designed for NAS storage system. Compared with desktop hard drive, NAS hard drive has better durability, more balanced performance and power consumption. Compared with enterprise hard drive, NAS hard drive is more affordable, and is ideal for NAS users.

Surveillance hard drive: In order to meet the demand of all-weather long vedio, surveillance hard drive is ideal for sequential writes but it has low random-access performance. We do not recommend using it for users without demand of surveillance vedio.

TNAS has multiple models that can be divided into 1 bay, 2 bays, 4 bays, 5 bays and 8 bays in accordance with the maximum number of hard drives loaded. Number of installed hard drives can be determinated based on actual needs of users, and TNAS can be used normally as long as users install at least 1 hard drive. Number of hard drives installed by users can be less than the maximum bay, and can be added later. However, for users who need to use RAID function, RAID should be recreated when adding hard drives. This operation will delete original data on the hard drives, so users need take notice of backup data with caution.

Computer remote login means that users use computer to log in and manage TNAS device in different place via internet. TNAS device must be connected with internet in order to realize remote access. There are two methods of remote login to TNAS of computer users: TNAS.online login and DDNS login:
1. Remote login via TNAS.online. Administrator need to enable TNAS online remote access before using the function.
To Set Up TNAS.online:
1.Go to TOS Desktop> Remote Access> TNAS.online;
2.Check "Enable TNAS.online remote access";
3.Register a "TNAS ID" and remember your TNAS ID. TNAS ID is the unique ID bound to your TNAS device. If the ID you entered is already in use, please try another one;
4.Click "Apply". To use TNAS.online on either a Windows or a Mac computer, please enter TNAS.online/TNAS ID in the browser address bar, if your TNAS ID is Jack2010, please enter "TNAS.online/Jack2010".
2.Remote login through DDNS. DDNS is the abbreviation of Dynamic Domain Name Server. DDNS should be set and used according to the following steps: The following are DDNS setting and the use steps
1.Go to TOS Desktop> Remote Access> DDNS;
2.Check "Enable DDNS";
3.Select a DDNS server;
4.Please fill in the information obtained when registering the DDNS service;
5.Click "Apply";
6.When the TNAS setup menu indicates "Connected", DDNS has been successful set up.
To Use DDNS for Remote Access (Windows and Mac computers apply):

Yes, but it depends on your playback device. If your playback device is not compatible with 4K video, select a TNAS model that supports transcoding.

For the security of your data, please change the hard disk immediately.

Reason 1: TNAS device is not within the same network as the computer. Please make sure TNAS is in the same network as the computer.
Reason 2: Firewall has been enabled on the computer. Please close the firewall and try again.
Reason 3: Two or more network cards may be in use. Please use only one and disable the other ones.
Reason 4: A system file exists in the hard disk which led to failure of the normal start of TNAS. Please pull out all hard disks, insert them again two minutes after rebooting TNAS, and try again.
Reason 5: A VPN service is enabled in your computer. Please disable VPN service and try again.

Yes, only when the hard drive is in ExFAT format. A hard drive in ExFAT format easily fails to read and write during abnormal operations. For example, you pull out the USB cable, remove the hard drive, and shut down the power suddenly before the product is ejected properly from the computer, and thus the hard drive may make an error where it can read but not write. Therefore, we do not recommend using ExFAT format. Click Go to> Connect to Server on the desktop of Mac computer, input the IP of afp://NAS or smb://NAS such as afp:// 192.168.1.100 or smb:// 192.168.1.100 in the server address and click connect. In the next menu, input user’s name and password to access the TNAS shared folders.

When TNAS is mounted under the secondary router or multi-level router, the subnet of each level router is different, which makes the address of TNAS cannot be recognized and users can not conduct remote access. The followings are setting ways of secondary routers.
Step 1: Set up the primary router. Find DMZ project in the settings menu of primary router. Please enable DMZ Besides, input the IP address of the secondary router in the bar and click Save.
